And I've made a cutout in the one beam where the pin housing fits into.
The jig saw's steel blades are not going to last very well, that is some serious glass there.

i found blades that are for "aluminium"
very coarse teeth and at slow speeds lasts MUCH longer than "steel" blades
this is on epoxy - glass- carbon fibre and aramid/kevlar

aramid is a nightmare to cut or sand
you basically have to trim it with a stanley knife or scissors
the more i work with these materials the more i like aramid - this is a SERIOUS man made fibre
carbon snaps - aramid bends like steel

    just my 2cents
when you glass those pin housings onto the beams
put ALL 4 beam and pin assembies onto a single shaft both ends
check that the 2 shafts are paralel and lined up X Y Z on shaft centres with a laser
then when you spilt - ANY shaft will line up any direction
crooked pin housungs will give "tight" joints
line boring on a cnc machine centre also works - but is costly - all 4 have to be done at the same time - and very few machines can "drill" thru those 4 pin housings at the same time
i did swing arms for a large screen shaker and it worked
2 shafts @ 1.8m long at 2.0m centres set up at 0.1mm on the ends gives an accuracy of 0.01mm in the middle which is all you need
your pins probably would have a 0.5mm play anyway - guessing ?
i dont know what the expansion factor is for that glass in the sun ?

    have fun
    cheers :D

still not clear on those joints?

is the one beam a pin housing as shown on the pic and the other beam 2 flanges (top and bottom) with the pin going thru ? to form a hinge
    male and female?

I bet you are relieved to get that task of laying up those beams behind you.

    Hi Hoyt,

You won't believe how easy it gets done ! It's cleaning the frigging stuff afterwards I dislike. I cannot imagine doing the same by hand...

Cutting the beams turned out to be more work than making them.

The four hull ends has been cut, and one end of the one hinge. Three ends to be cut before I can begin to glass them in. I also have to line them up properly so they hinge horizontal.

It is too hot to work with the glass. Will have to wait for some cooler weather.

Still nice work, though. Winter here. Big blizzard with cancelled flights across eastern seaboard.

Nice weather to finish the fiberglass work, indoors that is.

I planned a couple of projects to work on for December since it's quiet and one can do your own things for a change. Fat chance. People in and out here all the time. The beams were supposed to be finished by now or that was what I thought.

I realised yesterday that half of December has past already and not much in the lines of my own things got done. This morning it was a week later.
