Hello Hoyt,

There's a dog in your avatar ? ... on the boat forum

Tbh, I am. Have to see some people and see if some things are going to work out. The whole setup is a pain in the you know what on the moment.

I still want to do the boat though, half the things are sitting around me here.

So Fanie,
What are you doing now?

I am almost ready to depart for warmer climes around Milne Bay Province of PNG... - Samarai, a potential port of entry is at the SE tip of the PNG "mainland", some 450 miles slightly east of north from Cairns, a convenient port of exit from Australia...

I am waiting for a weather window... Probably in a couple of weeks... Thence to enjoy a warmer winter (well some 60 days on a cruising visa in PNG), before heading back to Australia to either Cairns, Queensland, or Gove Harbour, in the NE corner of the Northern Territory - 'never never land' - "If you never never go, you will never never know..."

How close is Manie to departing on his epic voyage?

Aye Mas,

North all the way. Why don't you swing by here and pick me up mate, I'll tell you all about it underway

It's a long story, will tell another time, but I'm still working on it.

Last time I heard Manie was near finish. He could come out of the closet any time soon, but a lot depends on conditions here, no news was good news for a long time.

To go to Saffa Land to collect you is further than my range under power at 6knots, as I do not have a mast or sails or watermaker - all needed to get that far away (about Au$30,000 shortfall in my financial reserves)...

That is why I am headed North... This 'Ancient Piece of S**t' needs to find an income source... Back to farming management in PNG or whatever in FNQ or near home port of Gove Harbour...

Fuel on-board (500 litres) and cruising range on existing propellors at 7knots is about 700 NMiles... Need to find a good pair of propellers and more fuel and 30K for stick&sails...

Have the capacity to carry some 500 liters more in main tanks and 800 additional litres in reserve tanks but that would be a bit overloaded if bad weather arose... I would far prefer to have some sails and a mast...

The Nanni saildrive uses a 17? spline shaft for propeller attachment. I have a Bob Oram 39C fitted with mini-keels and weighs about 5000kg, waterline beam length ratio is about 11.5:1 on a waterline length of 11.99metres... The boat is guite a slippery hard chine hullform and does not seem to generate a 'bow wave' or much wake at all... The engines are Kubuto 21 hp and the gearbox 2.56 : 1 reduction, peak torque is at 2400 engine rpm and max hp/revs is at 3800 (or is it 3600) rpm... Engines seem to have a definite sweet spot at 3000rpm...

Anyone following Rick Willoughby's/Leo Lazerides formula for propellor design? - I could do with some additional views on propeller selection. I have a 300mm radius clearance for the propeller, so max propeller diameter would have to be less than 17inches but that may be too big for the available power... Present fitting is a "gori look alike" 2 blade folding of 15inch diameter x 10inch pitch...

are there any pics of Fanie's Boxy Fisher (whole boat) or even a

sketch of the general scheme? Or is he keeping it under wraps on purpose for the big unveiling?

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I replied to this thread - the project is going on and I do not have anything to show yet except an incomplete building. Fortunately in my case time is of no relevance if you consider my age and the wife says I have enough projects to last me another 500 years...

In the meantime the foldable tri-yak will have to to, and even that has not been completed yet. I found a trailer for it and have to finish the trampoline. Then probably the most difficult is to convince some 'friends' of mine that we should make a trip to Mozambique to test the tri-yaks on the fish there...

Business is not good in SA currently so we have to make do with what we can.

I have had to postpone the Fishy Boxier Cat also, due to some new higher priority things on the honey-do list, so it will be months instead of weeks until completion, so I know how you feel. Hope everything works out well for you.
