| So, where's that confounded painter...? (apologies to Led Zeppelin) What a wonderful and consistent push to make this project happen, Henrik. Truly, I'm looking forward to the day when this bad boy gets wet and the F22 guys, if there are any in your neighborhood, have to get out of the way as you blast past them in a local regatta. You’ve created a very sweet machine with a steady fulfillment of vision. Hat's off, my man. |

| One of my projects over the next year is to design a center hull that will support my tornado hulls as the amas. I built a 40' trimaran with Ken King formerly of Navtec from a Chris White design. Ken had done the basic design and model and then took it to chris to finish the project design. The boat is called Skyhook and I know that at least one other boat was built from her design, Katrina. The design is called the Skyhook 39 when looking it up on Chris Whites website. Sorry for the going off topic. I hpoe to be able to build a carbon center hull with foam core. The rig initially will be a modified Tornado rig with asymmetrical spinnaker. If anyone wants to assist with the design, you can PM me or email to tsiders@hopkintoncc.com. Thanks

| Some updating! The build is moving forward, the paint jobb ended up being done by Bertil himself in the garage. The paint is awlgrip for brush painting. amas are painted, main hull exept deck is painted, spar is painted. Rudder boxes, daggerbards and rudder blades built but not painted. Some pictures, almost looks like the rendirings ![]() |

| Curvaceous design and beautifully crafted, Heinrik - you're obviously one of those really annoying, perfectionist, Scandinavian bastards who makes the finish on owe own boats look totally dogshit by comparison. Your workshop looks pretty bloody filthy too - (kiwi way of passing complements). |

| How did you build the spars, and what was the recipe, if it isn't a trade secret? I have a similar sized boat of much lower tech, but a spar is on the to do list over time. Any information would be appreciated. Kinda speechless as far as your boat is concerned! |

| The spar was built in a female mould, in 4 pieces (it would have been to long for the workshop). By using 4 piececs there is only need for one mould. First the port-starbord halves were joined. Last of all, the upper and lower parts was joined by an internal sleeve. |

| Henrik hasn't updated us in a while so I'll help him out from his posts on SA-this boat is too cool not to share these pictures. The boat is another in a short list of sport trimarans designed to fly the main hull. Note the board and rudder positions. Congratulations on a spectacular job, Henrik!

| Henrik, you say the paint is awlgrip for brush painting - are you saying you acchieved that level of finish by brush application ? That would be a serious acchievement. I`m in need of repainting my boat, and that would be a serious option as I`m terrible with a spraygun. |

There are other polyester based paint systems that you can apply with roller, it will stretch when it cures, makes a perfect surface. |

| Thanks Henrik. If you know of other manufacturers name/brand I can look for, please could you list a few - Not sure if Awlgrip is available in South Africa, or maybe there is a more wallet-friendly version, if it is too expensive once imported. Or if you could give me a specification, is it just a "polyester based paint system" that I`m looking for ? We have a local paint company that might have something which is similar. Sorry to ask, if it is not too much hassle to answer my questions. |

| I brushed awlgrip, though I didn't get as good a finish as shown here, but it was pretty nice originally. The Gougeons in pro boatbuilding days brush finished awlgrip. They describe the process in their book. Synopsis was to roll on with 3mm rollers, while a second person (or my right hand) tips off with a foam brush. Works with linear poly generally. Though certainly some brands take to it better than others. I have been in their shop, and it is an old low building, not one of those factory type building with masses of space. More important part of the equation is staying alive... |
