Is that why they are all 'hanging over the side?'

 

Those are the look outs to provide a 1 second warning to drop all sail upon observing that the long fin and bulb have detached.

 

All crew have to be on deck when the canting keel is engaged - in case it falls off there is no one trapped below

 

Not even close folks - this shot is an early morning view and the crew is in the middle of a teeth brushing exercise, which as a good team does, is performed together.

 

Or mermaid sighting.

Thanks Yob. Here is a stern shot. This is not my typical canoe stern but this client wanted more of a canoe type stern rather than the Valiant type I would normally use. It worked ok but with less volume aft you are locked into hull speed under power pretty early. It sailed fine but I would have liked to see better speed under power. Maybe it was a prop issue. I don't recall playing with the prop.

 

Here is another MS that is being built right now. It started life as one of my cartoons. My pal John walked in the office and started talking about building another boat. Then he pulled sheet of paper from his pocket and showed me this:

I said, "John, that is a cartoon, a whimsical, nautical joke." Hew said, "Yeah I know that but I still want to build it." I explained that there was not scale to it but he didn't care. He thought I could make it work. I agreed to give it a try. John is an amazing woodworker and very skilled at boatbuilding.
It works far better than I had ever thought possible.

 

That first isn't a cartoon. It's a PORTRAIT of MY boat!
