The modern light daysailors don't loose much speed from having an outboard hanging from the stern. They go as fast with the motor as with sails.

how was it, at speed sails sail better? so using both drives, motor and sail simulataniously on a slender hull, or hulls like a cat, the sum can be attractive

Or ..... its a boat that motors much better than a purely sailing vessel, and sails much better than a pure motor boat.

Yacht owners get so proud about how well a 'pure' sailing boat sails - at about 9 knots say. You can run faster on land !

They are the boats defined as 'going nowhere slowly at great discomfort and great expense'

Now that the Sydney for Hobart Race is being won by boats that cannot have their diesals turned off to race, all yacht clubs will have to change their name to include the word 'Motor'
