Water Tank Coating System

I have just recently cleaned my (steel) water tanks and would like to recoat them. I think the original coating is cold tar, so that would be okay to replace. They have not been recoated in twenty years so i assume technology has progressed beyond cold tar. Any recommendations on a coating system?

Check with the folks that do SHIPS , not boats.

Sherwin Williams has a huge variety of surface coatings , start there.
