need info on history of my custom steel cutter

Two years ago I purchased a 42' custom steel hull cutter rig named Pearl.
I am trying to piece together her origins and history as the the previous owner was not all that much help in this regard. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

The previous owner and documentation details:

Built in 1985 in Urbanna, Virginia by a man named Gregory D. McCandless. supposedly a "Davis" design. steel hull and coachroof sides with glass over plywood decks. Documented name is Pearl. previously hailing from Isle of Hope, GA. Previous owner was John Ainsle.

Anything I can learn about McCandless or a Davis design would be greatly appreciated.

Update:
I somehow got the info wrong -
It's McCandliss Built - Dana design.

Anyone know anything about this builder or designer from the 80's?
