johnboat repair

this is my first time here, I hope Im doing this right. I have a 1973 fmc alum johnboat. The rivets in the stringers in the bottom have come out and the stringers are broke and need replaced. The question is can I weld the holes and weld the stringers in the bottom of the boat without the bottom cracking around the weld area. I am a welder and welding alum is not a problem. Just dont wont to sink before I get started.
