Also true, but I don't consider chloride to be sodium chloride. However, I took a wild, wild guess, and assumed as much. The comment was tongue-in-cheek …

I know you know, DB. On a public forum there's no such thing as too much information.

It doesn't matter how young or old one is, or how long they've been online. Writing in all-caps is rude and difficult to read, as it has been since the dawn of the Web. Your English is just fine, but please try to be polite with the formatting.

Got to laugh.

I almost as old (54) and have been using computers and networks since I was 18 (36 years). I did networking for a Fortune 500 Company, before the Internet existed on a large scale (when it was call DARPA).

I REMEMBER WHEN COMPUTER TERMINALS ONLY HAD UPPERCASE ! (To save storage, we only used 6 bits/character)

I do find reading mixed case much easier.

yaplej, I'm not sure why you chose steel on smaller boats... usually only for larger boats.
If I was you I'd consider polyester resin for such a small craft. You could put the welding to good use when you build a trailer fot it.

I really don't give a rat's arse about how old you are. I too have been on the internet for more than ten years – the number of years one has been "active" on the internet has no bearing whatsoever on anything I have said.

Further, I'm not "rebuking you because of the capitals". I am telling you why it's a bad idea to use capitals, and further I am saying that your notion that 316 stainless in a salt water environment need not be painted is very, very wrong. Each are separate points. But, inspired by your ridiculous claim, that because you have been on the net for so many years and because of your age you must be right: What will you do when I tell you that I have been a journalist (i.e. actually communicating to people professionally) for more than ten years, and have in the same period used the internet?

You see, I am not right because of any of those things, because that does not constitute an argument - not in it's own right nor by way of referring to hard facts. It shows, however, that playing the experience-card, or even the age-card has no real power, unless you're talking to dumbwitted people who believes whatever they're told, as long as the person is higher up in the hierarchy (or further ahead).

But I see you have now made the whole point of your posting here to be about the capitals (which are still annoying and difficult to read). But seriously, if you believe what I say about building in stainless is wrong, why don't you do a search with the terms I suggested, instead of pretending what you said is true, by means of a strawman? Come now, you must have heard of researching, or is that yet another discipline you, by way of age and history, are inherently an expert in?

If you build the cat, and if you make one hull of copper and the other of zink you could have a permanent battery on the sea for powering your lights and run an electric motor untill the boat sink. Yes, sink not zink.

I have just refreshed my memory on some SS's last night. SS will get attacked and corroded by salt water. Another thing you must realize, ever wondered why there are no SS trailers ? SS is not a good material for constant flexing so prepared steel would be a better choice.

Not sure why you insist in using steel. Steel is something you do with your nerves when you are about to open your bills...

Just thinking out loud, but a hull of copper would look awesome, methinks:

Steel is an excellent building material. Like all material choices, it has good and bad issues to ponder.

A small, steel boat is very doable, though I don't think you'll get the things from this material that you may be hoping it will provide (at this displacement class).

Yaplej hasn't posted to this thread since June of this year, so the points raised may be moot.
