Exhaust location Does the exhast really have to go at the back of the boat? Why can't it go at the side in the middle - the boat only heels when it is sailing after all.

It does regularly - go look at photo's of many boats, especially 'double enders'. Just don't forget to close the sea valve when you do sail - or your engine may get a little damp in the wrong places! ![]()

| If you put it only in one side in the middle, it will take on water when heeling. The water will go into the engine on the other tack. The solution is a North Sea exhaust. It has a T fitting and exhausts in both sides.

In general, at least i have seen, is that the exhaust case can be placed on water line. i mean the center of exhaust pipe in on WL and also it is not a clear idea, especially for old engines, that the exhaust case is on the middle of the vessel, unless you want to live with black clouds ![]()

To avoid taking on water when heeling, a reverse U pipeline can be mounted before pipe exit ![]()
