I plan on building a deck on my aluminum shallow v and I'm trying to come up with an idea for upright support where it attaches to the rib. I would rather not rivet to the rib but I don't want it moving around.

Any ideas. I was going to frame it with aluminum angle

Could you use flush aluminum machine screws.

    Send a picture.

If it is a very thin aluminum hull, ie .100 inch or less, the boat will flex quite a bit and introducing a stiff vertical support to the deck/rib can create high load/stress concentrations which can cause work hardening and cracking at the fastener to rib/hull interface.

If the span is not a lot, the reason for the pict, you can make the deck rib stiff enough to carry a significant load and attach it only to the gunnel and miss some of the problems
