There's the popsicle stick Viking long boat from a few years back, a tedious work of sticky art. Then there's the frozen newspaper powerboat by the "Myth Busters". You can expect annual cardboard canoe and raft races around the country.

Stone is superior to any other material. Doesn't corrode neither rottens.. Though this one has grounded on a sand reef

The first boat I ever made was a canoe from a used, 10' length of galvanized corrugated roofing. I brought one end together for a stem, folded it over a couple of inches, and hammered it flat. For a transom, I took a piece of 2x6, hammered the corrugations flat and nailed it in. Then I turned it upside down, and beat and pushed on it until I had some chines and a more or less flat bottom. I daubed the seams and the old nail holes with roofing cement, threw it into the drain ditch next to our house, and tried paddling around in it using a piece of scrap plywood nailed to an old broomstick.

I didn't drown. So I'd say it was a successful boat, from a 9 year old boy's point of view. My mother confiscated it for some reason, though.

Wanted to sail to the USA, said he sailed to the UK, has no proof of it. now the money is gone, and the boat is not seaworthy. It currently is in emmeloord, the netherlands again, where it is build.



it looks quite strong with all that epoxy, but it isn't very straight...



I would like to build a boat out of hemp fibre, growing the stuff myself, scaring the whole neighboorhood wich probably think its drugs , hahaha
I think I'll stick to glass and carbon, convincing the police this hemp is not illegal could be a bit hard

I build a pontoon out of a europallet and some styrofoam when I was around that age. Crossed the harbor on it. It was constantly 5 cm below the surface while I was on it. Wasn't a big succes, but looked cool, like I was standing on the water, hahaha
