Stripper wanted...

(some people will do anything to get their posts read!)

Paint Stripper question...

If I had an Aluminium hull faired with a little filler then coated with a well adhered 2 part epoxy primer - that has then later been painted with a single pack paint that has not adhered to the 2 pack propery and has started to come off. - Any ideas what I could use to strip off the top one and leave the 2 part intact?

Info greatfully received...

I've had afew jobs like this . 2 options - sand off with least dammaging grade of paper to achiene the required result . being the "softer " product the single pack will come away realativly easily, or 2 sponge blast - a propriety blast system that uses a soft medium. does acieve good results but is expensive. what ever ,its messy

Just a guess, but I have used acetone, a lot of rags and time in the past (It does not affect epoxy primers) but of course it's not the most friendly substance known to man kind. Another idea is a heat gun. The Primer will usually withstand much higher heats than a sinle pack paint.

You might try using the stripper from Star10, think it's called Dan Swett's paint remover. It's entirely solvent, but no caustics, if you only work on a small area and work quick it'll remove the paint without touching the epoxy under it.
