| Replacement Core Material The companionway hatch in my fiberglass sailboat is becoming soft and on opening the fiberglass shell I found the foam core material is crumbling away. Some locals have suggest replacing the core material with plywood but that would certainly add some weight. Any suggestions for a long lasting, lightweight, stable core material for this type of repair. Thanks |

| How much core is damaged? If it is significant then foam or balsa is the favorite, if it just around the edge I usually seal the remaining core after drying it, then fill with thickened epoxy.

| Looks like it will be a full replacement of the foam core. The original material just crumbles. Thanks for your comments. |
