polyester matrix over urethane foam

Thinking of starting to build own design boat. starting small.
would it befeasible to built the boat shape from polyurethane foam boards and then grp it over. it will be a lot of sandingto get good surface but part from that? thinkingof only one or two layers inside so the foam would act more as a insulator and frame than a proper sandwitch.
