northern white cedar

I have gotten my hands some good lengths of clear white cedar...I have in the past used it to strip plank boats ...or build "strippers"
but ...has anyone used it for cold moulding? it is stronger lighter and stiffer than western red....and I do have a lot of it!

cold moulding uses veneers. Are you going to resaw all that wonderfull strip planking material for a lesser building method?

not really sure....I have always planked...but in this case the hull is fairly complex...and I had hope a combo of stripped and cold moulded would make a nice fair hull

oh ...and yeah ...i was doing some work today ..and it slices well into 1/8 inch thickness

Maybe he wants to use it for the stringers etc under the veneers. That makes sense.

Sorry SBS, I have no idea how it compares to western red - we don't have either here. Well, we can get hold of western red, but not the good stuff.

Use it, because the epoxy, the sheathing and the LPU paint will keep it dry. If it's not a kayak you want, then saw it at 1/4". Combining strip planking and cold moulding delivers the finest of hulls. Here's some inspiration.
