| What is the weight of the cloth, how many layers and what species of wood or type or foam are you laminating over?

| I ve just read a book on fibre glass, so I know a tidy bit about fibre glass, but this is the first time I've ever tried to to build a boat. I have dealt with fibre glass before but never really understead it untill now. I'm not sure about how many layers i need but i read somewhere before that with mat the amount of resin needed is 1.5 x the weight of the mat and with cloth the amount of resin need is 2 x the weight of cloth. Is this true?? |

| The ratio of resin to fibers is higher with mat. If you have no experience with fiberglass, there are two options. One is to pay a designer to do the calculations or use an existing design. The other is to build to your own design, but expect to fix and modify it. I am curious, if you designed a catamaran, how did you calculate the scantlings and structure without knowing the characteristics of fiberglass?
