i've designed a 5m catamaran and want to work out how much the hulls will cost to build. measuring in weight how much resin would i need for 1m2 of that is 300 g in weight?

What is the weight of the cloth, how many layers and what species of wood or type or foam are you laminating over?

I ve just read a book on fibre glass, so I know a tidy bit about fibre glass, but this is the first time I've ever tried to to build a boat. I have dealt with fibre glass before but never really understead it untill now. I'm not sure about how many layers i need but i read somewhere before that with mat the amount of resin needed is 1.5 x the weight of the mat and with cloth the amount of resin need is 2 x the weight of cloth. Is this true??

The ratio of resin to fibers is higher with mat. If you have no experience with fiberglass, there are two options. One is to pay a designer to do the calculations or use an existing design. The other is to build to your own design, but expect to fix and modify it. I am curious, if you designed a catamaran, how did you calculate the scantlings and structure without knowing the characteristics of fiberglass?
