Literature for lightweight 70 foot fibre glass construction

Hello All,
I won't trouble you with questions yet, would be too many. Another year down the line...

What I am looking for is Books, apart from the list below, what other books can you professionals recommend? Especially for lightweight designing and building techniques!

Project: 70*14 foot lightweight fibre glass sailing yacht. Actually rather similar to MacGregor 65, except that the MG65 is too sporty, I more aim at cruiser/sailer than sailor/racer. But weight costs so lightweight with plenty of bulkheads, stringer and reinforcements it still is.

The Elements of Boat Strength - Dave Gerr
Principles of Yacht Design - Larsson, Eliasson
Desirable and Undesirable Characteristics of the Off-Shore Yacht -Rousmaiere
The World’s Best Sailboats – A Survey by Frenec Mate (should I buy part 1 or 2 or both?)

Pro's, I greatly appreciate your valuable input here
Mikey

I posted this thread is the wrong place, Sorry. I then posted it where it belongs, Fibre Glass Boatbuilding with the same name. The discussion has now moved on to stacking sequence and fibre directions.

Whilst at university, I had this book out for almost a year. I swear by this book. Any GRP subject its got it. From Structural laminate design, joint design, good design guides, standards etc. Like most GRP books, its kinda expensive. But its worth its weight in gold. Its about 10kg. Its heavy, but the information is valuable, easy to read, and very clear and logical. Its called,

Structural Design of Polymer Composites: Eurocomp Design Code and Background Document ~J.L. Clarke (Editor), Spon Press, EuroComp

Amazon has the book.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...456048-6545267

Its so good, after graduation, I personally bought it and use its regularly.

Thanks for your reply Buckle
I ordered my first bunch of books from Amazon 2 weeks ago ($250), just arrived yesterday so I missed adding this one in this round. I will order again closer to Christmas and will certainly order it then.

One question: Does it contain suitable mix of UD, WR and CSM for different applications?

Sample: 1 CSM as the outside layer is good because it will be a resin rich layer that is good when it comes to puncture resistance and resin rich => binds better, one layer of CSM between each ply of UD or WR = resin rich = binds better, things like that?

Thanks
Mikey

The Eurocomp Design Code was developed for the building industry. I don't think it's worth the price when you're into boatbuilding (I paid something like 200 USD for it years ago and haven't had any use for it yet - ouch!).
Books like "Fiberglass Boat Design and Construction" by Robert J. Scott (publ. by SNAME), "Marine Composites" by Eric Greene (can be downloaded for free at http://www.marinecomposites.com) and "Design of Marine Structures in Composite Materials" by C.S. Smith (publ. by Elsevier) will serve you better.

Hello Søren,
I checked at Amazon and the book is $280... I am still looking for literature so that I don’t have to bore you to death with stupid questions... I will order “Design of Marine Structures...” with the next batch.

I stayed a bit late at the office yesterday and printed the complete marinecomposites book (300 pages something...), risking complaints from my pregnant wife (which I also got) but it was worth it.

I haven’t forgotten the other thread, tomorrow.

By the way, what a lovely note, I totally agree. But you don’t have any variations...
Mikey

Well, there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers! And another thing my mother told me whenever I came to her with a "Mommy, I'm bored...": Intelligent people never get bored!
