King StarBoard

Anyone have any experience using this material. It looks like it would make great stuff for many interior applications on a boat.

I've used it for many things. The matirial is heavy so I tend to use it for smaller stuff; like foot rests, drink holders, even a nav station panel back. It is durable, seems to weather well, is very easy to work with, but it is heavy.

Doug,

Thanks for the response. Can this stuff be bonded to itself or wood with epoxy or is hardware required?

It welds well to itself, using ABS welding rods- try http://www.Eastwoodco.com, hot melt glue works resonably well for wood, but I'd say mechanical fasteners are the best bet.

There's not much that sticks to it well, certainly not like a wood/epoxy bond or a 3M 5200/GRP bond, though some stick is available with silicon and I've heard of hot glue working okay. It's heavy stuff, not cheap, does weld, has color throughout, wares well, is waterproof, doesn't hold fasteners well and like most things a trade off for a quality or two we like, compared to the other options.

Makes good replacement for small hatch covers and wood trim replacement. We had an old Mako 19 that we replaced all the wood with star board. As I recall it floats. It is heavy.
