Is Killrust (rust converter) OK for Wooden Boats?

In sprucing up the 30 ft marine ply yacht I have just purchased-(see my other thread) I want to scrape back and rust-kill-convert some of the metal bits in the boat, the base of the mast and various other bits.
I want to know if the rust converter product will in any way damage or degrade the wood.
Of course I would not be putting it directly on the wood, but with the hull one can never be too carefull.
Hans.

Hello me, and others who hopefull will read this again.
Maybe this is a stupid question.
I just have the amature precaution not to just go and do whatever I think might help.

Has anyone out there put rust converter on the metal parts of their wooden boat?
Does anyone know of any problems or reason why, not to do this?
Thanks.
Hans.

Hans

Most of the "rust converteres" are a phosphoric acid base. The Wood surface will be degraded if not protected , but not by much. wash well after use.

Hope this helps

Hans.
Tends to erode the surface slightly giving the grain some relief but a minor problem. Always best to try the product on a sample of course.

Good luck
