Kevlar

In a hand layup on a foam core hull of a 5.1 oz kevlar should I use satin weave or plain? rick

It does not really make too much difference strength/stiffness wise. The satin weave will drape better over rounded shapes.

Who would be a good source for kevlar samples? I'd like to play with some before trying to lay up an entire hull.

Try Composites One: www.compositesone.com. They are a major supplier of composite materials to all fiberglass industries. You will have to pay for it; they don't give them away for free, and that is IF they have any samples or cut-offs from other miscellaneous orders. Then, you can also try Googling "kevlar distributors" and see what you get. Kevlar is a DuPont product, so you may be able to find sources through DuPont.
