Flooring beams material?

Im curious if there is a commonly used wood when creating a support structure for flooring. By this I mean the support beams under a flooring. I suspect its just commong douglas fir most of the time? I wouldnt think it needs to be anything fancy since it really wont be wet. Any advice?

Sport fisher 40ft. For support of engine room hatches, or general floor support. Where walking inside is involved.

i tend to stick to woods or plywoods that can handle water. EVen thouogh unlikely if done right., It is possible for an outside wall or deck to leak. But if it does an ill choice wood suppport will rot.

If the worst should happen and rot is found, how much trouble will it be to replace the damaged piece? If it is to be primarily a work boat, I would go with pressure treated, dense southern yellow pine. If you are building a fine yacht, then I would choose a more exotic durable wood that finishes well.

Mahogany is good, depending on where on earth you live you might be able to find black walnut or clear red mulberry both very durable. clear cypress is nice if you can find it. All heart dense doug fir is strong and durable, white oak isn't to be scorned.

Fiberglass beams

If this is one off you can also use pultruded fiberglass profiles (angle, T sections etc.) We have installed them on one -off 48 feet. If you need to have fire resistant they offer also for little higher price.

The company: BTM Vezelversterkte Kunststoffen B.V I think www.btm.cc

A good idea indeed Maciej, I was on the way to answer you accordingly when
I was taken away. Can you get those profiles (there are quite some available) at acceptable prices?

D'artois, we have bought:
Equal Leg Angle 3 x 1/4, 76 mm x 76 mm x 6.4 mm, pultruded glass fiber reinforced fire retardant, Isophthalic polyester quality, with synthetic surface veil around, length each 6.1 meter, against a price of € 12.15 net per meter
(alternative in series 1500 grey, so not fire retardant € 10.90 per meter)

Wide Flange Beam 3 x 3 x 1/4, 76 mm x 76 mm x 6.4 mm, pultruded glass fiber reinforced fire retardant,length each 6.1 meter, against a price of € 16.30net per meter

Round Tube 2 x 1/4, 51 mm x 6.4 mm, pultruded glass fiber reinforced fire retardant,Isophthalic polyester quality, with synthetic surface veil around,
length each 6.1 meter, against a price of € 13.70 per meter

Price level is a question, depends on type and finish of boat. This is proffesional way in one-offs since serial boat has spider and does not need this.
We mainly use wooden beams which is cheaper but this is because clients want to have boat built for free
