| Eco friendly epoxy Has anyone heard or used Ecopoxy resin system? http://www.ecopoxysystems.com/ I would like to do some testing... any ideas out as to how to test resin in the real world not a lab? I have heard of boil test, what would be the procedure? |

| Well, many statements about the container, but nothing about the hardener! The most important part of the game! Epoxy resin can be made of almost any oil, grease, fat, that is not new, and not soo eco- friendly as they would like to tell us. The boil test you mention, I think, referes to plywood, not to Ep. | thanks for conversation, yes hardener is everything and I agree there is not much info on the site. Boil... I was referring to epoxy coating plywood... not really sure how to test a resin out of the lab... besides making parts and letting time tell the truth. Any ideas would be great as I am getting sensitized to glue and we long time builders need a product like this on market. How can we test it, is still the question. They have stats on the safety page on the http://www.ecopoxysystems.com/sherry%20laboratories.pdf |

Yes of course, can be, we had a former contact here. I am a bit in doubt, that the hardener / curing agent is anything different from what we have on the market for ages. And usually it is that stuff causing allergic reactions. The boiling test is for ply. Resin we do´nt test usually. The industry provides reliable data, is what we found out. (maybe thats valid for the major brands only I do´nt know) Regards Richard |

| being boat guys this might make our lives a bit less toxic... not completely but closer to a goal we all need to be concerned about Toxicity of our tools. I have cross the hardener MSDS sheets for Mas low tox hardener and Ecopoxy... they are similar but different and Ecopoxy uses a lot less of the hardener than Mas in the mix... food for thought. |

| What I see is a website that makes claims on a certain epoxy product, which they seemingly buy somewhere else (see MSDS). Claims made are not quantified (HDT temperature) and other technical data is very limited. Also seemingly a Microban product is added to the epoxy to make it deter bacteria. This is a common system for polyester and epoxy products in areas which should stay as clean as possible. I do not know the reason for adding this in the epoxy as standard. There must be a good reason for this. Classifications on the material (in the MSDS) state that the material is no less hazardous then normal epoxy. Also the MSDS reveils considerable amounts of benzylalcohol, something we generally try to avoid. Good thing is that I did not see nonyl-phenol or similar.
