Compatability of vinyl ester and polyester

I am new to this forum and have done a few boat repairs. I'm doing repair to a polyester resined boat. The Side of the boat was damaged beyond repair so I tracked down the guy who has the mold to my particular boat. He has agreed to make my peice out of vinyl ester. My question is are these materials compatable? Can you put polyester over vinyl ester and vice versa?
Any help would be great.

Yes they are, it would be best to laminate the new piece in with the VE.
