| If the bottom is in good condition don't fix what ain't broke. That said, this is a trailer boat and the only type of boat I'd recommend a bottom coating. The boat will never be in long enough to make a coating an issue. The issue will arise if it doesn't get the care it (the coating) needs. That said, there is less care required in traditional construction without coatings then with, by coatings I'm talking about stuff other then paint/varnish. If you have rot issues, then address them properly. There is no magic goo in a can that will turn dead wood into less dead wood, regardless of what the advertisers and can label says. If the boat leaks, find out why and address the problem, don't smear goo all over or pack mystery mud in the seams. It will do a lot more harm then good. The products you wrote about have their place, but a lot of folks try to stretch the envelope in their application and use, only to find a few years down the road a bigger and more damaging result of their craftiness. |

| When I said bottom was in good condion I ment I found no soft spots. Just read Danenburg, enlighting! this type of bottom should not be caulk. Peices of cotton sticking out of seams, planks have not forced them selves away from frames yet bottom transome frame has crack and will be replaced starboard side only cracked. |

Nice quote PAR.... There is always someone to sell "snake oil"... or "magic dust" that will repair rotted wood..... ![]() |
