This stuff sounds like it's close to being able to be practically applied to structures-like boat hulls:

    You can buy a 7" x 9" piece for about $1,500 :!: My current 12' canoe design would work out around $100,000 provided a single layer is enough . . . I think I'll wait for a while :)

Thats as amazing as the material. Did you actually find a supplier?!
    UPDATE: Three different thicknesses from $100 to $130 per sq.ft, $900 to $1170 per sq.yd. here: http://www.nanotechlabs.com/MWNT Blend Buckypaper 12 x 12 20gsm.html

By incorporating the carbon nanomaterial into a membrane, surface-dominated thermal and electrical properties of composite structures can be maximized. Buckeye Composites’ buckypaper can be handled in continuous roll form similar to aerospace carbon fiber prepreg materials and is essentially treated as just another “ply” in the lamination process. Buckypaper is directly compatible with established autoclave and out-of-autoclave composite processing techniques, and is integrated into the composite structure by resin infusion during cure.

Just Googled "buckypaper" and "price". Didn't look for quantity and better prices, they were just sample sizes, nice to see it by the sq yd, that might get my Space Age canoe cost down, but a lot to learn about handling, necessary thickness, layers required etc.

Terry, I quoted square yards based on the sq.ft price. I imagine woven carbon cloth was in this vicinity price-wise years ago. I wonder if I'll live long enough to be able to buy some? Oh, well-at least I've been able to work with carbon cloth.....

Now all you need is a "diamond like" coating to replace paint and reduce friction.
Another $100K if you had the equipment.

But we do get tech advances - just not on a schedule!
