38' Atkin design 'INGRID'(double ender) hull layup

I have recently purchased the moulds used to layup this boat. She has been layed up using glass and polyester ( or constructed with wood). I am seeking comment and criticism on the feasibility of using other materials. I am also wondering about the practicality of laying up the mast/boom. I am clueless. Her displacement using glass has historically been about 25000#, which may follow her displacement as originally constructed in wood. Any comments, observations, thoughts etc. will be welcomed.

Ingrid 38

The Engine most used in the Ingrid was a volvo md2b, I will reccomend you not use this engine. They are old, noisy, raw water cooled, overheat, blow head gaskets and parts are outragious. The last head gasket I bought (remember it is the size of a briggs and stratton) was $60. plus shipping. I took my boat from Washington state to Mexico last year amd blew the engine off the coast of Mag bay, I had to sail 550 miles to La Paz without an engine, power, radar and worse no lights. The md2b is a 25 year old engine, ask a marine diesel mechanic for suggestions or see practical sailor, they have done a comparrison of newer engines.
