| How European and U.S.A boat builders purchase the equipments for the boats? Hi, Guys, We just set up a company called Genuine Marine to supply marine equipments to those local yacht builders in China. As the majority of the equipments in the yachts are from U.S.A and European countries we would like to find out how those boat builders in U.S.A and European boat builders purchase the equipments. My questions will be: 1. Do those boat builders in Europe and U.S.A purchase the goods directly from the manufacturers or local distributors, dealers? 2. Do those boat builders in Europe and U.S.A reply on a order consolidator who will purchase everything and ship the goods in a lot to the boat builders? 3. Is there any good marine supplier or consolidators in Europe which could help purchase everything as mentioned in No 2? 4. How those boat builders handle the shipping by sea, air or land especially for those international orders? Do they normally reply a forwarder or those marine supplier or consolidator to handle the shipping? Actually the main problem here is that those equipments for a boat are from different manufacturers in the world how to figure out the best solution to keep the purchasing cost, transportation cost and handling cost down. Any comment will be appreciated. | Genuine Marine What you are actually setting up - it doesn't surprise me -is a parallel import in China. Because, the majority of Marine Companies do have already representatives / importers/ agents in China. In spite of that I can reason your activity, because of the fact that the Chinese may still buy cheaper in Europe that in China, - even if this sounds odd, it is a living fact. In case you want to set up something serious, you need a warehouse facility for the proper consolidation of merchandise to fill a 20' or a 40' container and I know by experience that the most suitable port is Antwerp, Belgium. It is less expensive than Rotterdam and it is easier to consolidate your goods there; till you have sufficient consignements to fill a containerload. You better check freightratings first, the cheapest are the non-conference lines, in general there are exellent connections between Antwerpen-Shanghai-Hong Kong or wherever you want to ship to. Every main shippingco uses forwarders and agents and such companies you'll find through your own shippingco. If you need any further help, you may post your query's and I'll answer them for you. I have about 30 years exp. in export, so I know about what I'm talking. |

| Our Question Dear D'ARTOIS, Thanks a lot for your insightful opinion and it really enlighted me a lot. What we aim to do is to find the best way to purchase , store and ship those marine equipments for those boat builders here in China. I understand there are some companies in Taiwan, Hongkong or mainland of China working as the manufacturers' dealer, representatives here but I personally think none of them have really set up a good procurement and logistic systems for the cost-effectiveness and professionism. Most of the boat builders purchase things from the states and as per my study there are lots of good things in Europe too. I have already worked with an American partner to handle the work in that end and am looking for another partner in Europe who can team with us so that we could have a global network. My specific question would be that in order to keep the cost and freight down how we could get the best pricing from those manufacutrers in states and Europe, how we proceed, store and ship the procurement with those manufacutrers dispersing all over the states and European countries. How those local builders in Europe and States get the best pricing from those local manufacturers? How we in China to achieve this ? How those local builders purchase, store and ship their procurement from different countries? Are there any company in Europe who might be able to handle those kinds of requirements with us? Any good recommendation for the warehouse facility in Antewerp? One of my friend from Holland recommended:www.alfonsfreriks.com and how do you think about them? We are also representing Gebo of Holland and normally they ship them via ocean or air to China. If you do not mind could you please send me an email with your contact information to my email address at: sales@genuinemarine.com. Looking forward to your early reply and thanks a lot for your help..
