| the right direction Neven, that sounds great. Do you have some photos, I checked the promaritime page and didint see the vessel. I was looking for something a little closer to seventy feet, but for sixty US, this is very acceptable. Are there any more traditional vessels in your listings? regards JPW |

| having spent considerable time in indonesia and especially sulawesi and the spice islands doing a study on traditional boatbuilders and sailing on i would contend that although this is definitely a ketch built in the 1990's that the 'long history' of these boats and the Bugis should be categorized as Bugis Pinisi Schooners or more commonly as Makassar Schooners taken from the name of the provincial capital in South Sulawesi there are many of these types of boats still working the waters the one i sailed on for many months was a 75 footer and mainly used as an inter island cargo vessel if you're really interested in them i could halp you with further research if you're interested in owning one you can buy one for much less than $100,000usd mind you that would not include the extensive equipment list mentioned here but you could outfit it yourself to your own specs and still come out ahead the other option is to have one built right there i could also help with that although i feel bad mentioning such a thing as this is not an attempt to hijack the original thread please feel free to contact me here and we can discuss matters further ~poetprince |

| New build No worries of hijacking the thread !But some comments may be allowed: You will not get a 75’ footer on Sulawesi for “much” less than $ 100.000 although you can get it for around $ 100.000. But you will have to stay a considerable time yourself in the country, which will cost money, and you have to know how to deal with the locals in order not to get cheated. In addition, the export of such a vessel is only “half-legal” without EPTIK license and one should know how to bring it out of the country afterwards. We offer project management for new build of these vessels. To give an example of the costs (contract recently signed between a customer from Austria and us): VESSEL FEATURES Traditional Pinisi Schooner LOA 25 meters Beam 5.8 – 5.9 meters Draft 2-3 meters Main Marine or Marinized Engine 200hp x 1 240hp-Turbo charged 6 cyl 2000 rpm (Possible) GENSET with Panel 35-58hp generating 15 KVA + backup power source from vessels Main Engine Chinese Gear Box 6-1 or appropriate ratio Steering & System Hydraulic Rudder & Shaft assembly Steel – Shaft Stainless Stuffing Box & 4 blade prop Quality Main Anchor Winch Electric or Hydraulic Main Engine Panel Basic Radar 15nm Small (15 to 34nm Range) Communications SSB or Sat phone + VHF Depth Sounder Basic Compass Basic GPS – Plotter Basic Running Lights Basic Search Light Basic Halogen Deck Flood Light System Basic Bilge System 3 units 2000 GPH Engine Ventilators 4 units Fire Safety Equipment On standard Fuel Tank Steel Capacity 5 Tons Water Tank Steel & Sealed 5 Tons Tool Kit Basic Muffler & Water Lock Professional Water Intake & Output Systems 6 points + Electric Stove & Burner Reverse Cycle A/C & Heat 1 unit 70,000 BTU or 2 units 35,000 BTU 2 Fridges / 1 Freezer / Dishwasher Electric Stainless Sink & PVC Supplies Ceramic WC x 3 24 electrical wire system High Capacity 220 volt electric wire system High Capacity Battery System & Bat Charger High Capacity Plate Glass windows 8 x 12inch port holes Brass Deck hardware Stainless Rope Appropriate Cable, clamps & turn-buckles Galvanized Sail’s Heavy Canvas Plastic Plates and Plastic Glasses (For positioning cruise) One Coat Wood Primer Exterior Nippon Marine Paints Anti-fouling Bow & Stern Thrusters Large Water Heater Electric Pressurized Water System Electric Powered 220v & 24v The targeted and budgeted cost of this project is set at 1,030,000,000 IDR, based on today’s BBR of Indonesian Rupiah of 10,550 IDR to 1 Euro (around US$ 118.000). This price includes full project management as described: A. Fine tone the construction estimate on the Pinisi Project B. Builder Selection and wood stock approval. C. Administration of payments to the builder - 33.3% of project cost on builder contract (5000 Euro Confirmed as paid) - 33.3% of Project cost at 5 months - Balance of Project cost before launch D. Assistance in Design of vessel and interior E. Supervision of construction process with photo updates documenting the project process. F. Administration of required documentation of the constructed vessel. G. Arrange the CIQP & CAIT (Cruising Permit) for the completed foreign flagged vessel to depart Indonesia. 3 month cruising permit cost 200 Euro. H. Assistance in crew selection for the position cruise to the MED

| i would like to know more about the process i would have to go threw to have a pinisi schooner built in suliwesi for less that 100000 usd . I have talked to a few people and have gotten the run around from quite a few people that said they would help me start the project. Thee are two things that would have to be done to my standards one is motor mounts two the hull inside and out would hav to be glass coated befor the boat ever entered the water. |
