Hi, new member. My father used to own a hot rodded Buccaneer 24 with a 38 foot rig, was named Twixt. Sailed in the Toronto area and here in BC. Currently I own a foam Buccaneer 33. I can see why my dad always said they were some of the best designed boats out there.

Buccaneer 24 plans for sale

Hi OS7, I'm keen to get hold of a set of plans for the Buc 24 but need to rack up the required 5 post etc. I don't wish to post boring messages to achieve this as it clutters the forum up.

Having not sailed a Buc 24 I can only theorise on her performance based on accurate and authentic accounts. Clearly the design is old in both hydrodynamic and construction terms, but does that mean she's a poor design to build today? I don't think so. I've always favoured simple plywood, stringer and framing construction, either with or without Epoxy/glassed joints. Therefore I'll feel right at home building the Buc.

I am interested to know how she performs in a seaway though. Gven the low prismatic hull and float and rockered keel, does she pitch and hobby horse excessively? I only intend to day sail with perhaps four crew (good weather only) and cruise with a crew of two with minimum gear and stores.

As an ex backpacker/mountaineer/cyclist/canoeist I'm well versed in the arts of travelling lightly. Infact my current boat, an aging Pandora MK1 being 22ft LOA and four berth, I find 'too' spacious for my needs. Therefore 'downsizing' to the Buc wouldn't be a problem at all.

Just received the plans, OS7. Thank you for sending them out so quickly! That enclosed article and the tips on epoxy are really helpful. Heading over to the Buccaneer 24 thread to see what tips people have for building one.
