Planing ? Just got the simms back on the water after 12 months. I am having trouble with getting the boat to plane. I am getting the feeling that I may not have the spacers in the correct order. Let me explain - There was six washers - nyloflex - that fitted over the shaft and were being used as spacers between the impeller on the back end and on the side nearest the engine. Does anyone know what sequence they should be in 3 and 3 or 4 and 2 etc. Scouter

They are used to adjust the tip clearance. The housing in which the impeller is working is conical, so you shim the impeller to an axial position, where the radial clearance is ~0.5 mm.

That's my understanding as well. It sounds like you've got too many spacers in there to start with. I'm sure in one of the other PP65 posts someone has posted the exact tollerance needed

Reverse Bucket I have now purchased another Simms - or should i say an "Armstrong Super" Jet boat. However there is no reverse bucket on the Jet and I was wondering if anyone knows where I could pick one of these up.

I'm starting to feel very guilty that you're onto a new project already and all i've done is prop the cover up to stop water gettin inside the boat!! As for a reverse bucket, it might be worth contacting this chap on eBay. He's been advertising the odd PP part over the last 12months and from memory i don't think he's sold anything though so you might get it cheap. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PP-JET-DRI...item257237d3ba

Its amazing what 2 bags of sand can do to act as a counterbalance. A bit heavy on the front but at least the boat goes on the plane now.

Here in the East that would be repaired even if you lost the 'blade',-- a new one would be made and welded on. Im sure that is an option. Its not a big job. One day health and safety and 600 pounds per week with 6 week holidays per year will arrive here too but until then some clever humans with skills still exist and are willing to do a fair days work for a fair days pay.

Starter Motor Yes i am still looking for details of the type and make of starter. I just brought the Simms out on the water yesterday and the engine would not turn. I found out this evening when I took off the starter that the gears were all chewed off the starter - hungry flywheel.

Jim Thanks for the PP65 Manual, I could have done with that 2 years ago when I made a monkeys out of the impellor on a previous Simms. However it is the starter on the engine that has give up, I am sure that it is a 1600cc Ford Crossflow Engine on the Boat. I was wondering what type of starter or the serial number for same for the starter as there is no numbers or letters on my own starter. Scouter
