is it possible to put a simple gearbox (forward neutral and reverse)between engine and jet drive and shift it into reverse at idle to suck water in the nozzel and flush weed out the intake???????

Yes. Some of Volvo's jet drive packages came with such a gearbox a few years ago (not sure about now...). This does add complexity, but does give you the back-flush capability and also allows you to run the engine in neutral without creating thrust at the jet.
