jet ski motor water intake?

on most jet ski motors where is the water intake for the sleeve around the cylinder like is it a hose with pipe fitting sticking out or is it in the jet and it pumps it through the motor in to the case and out again or whatever

There is a bypass at the nozzle that sends water for cooling
