The only way to run a jet pump out of the water is to disconnect the pump shaft from the engine. Very hard on pumps to run dry.

whatever you do, do not run your jet out of the water for more than 30 sec. if so you WILL damage the wear ring inside of the pump housing. dissconnect the drive shaft from the motor and make sure that your exhaust is also disconnected from the water inlet if not then your engine will fill up with water.
