Is it a good idea? Hey i am thinking about building a hydroplane and was wondering if it would be a good idea to put a jet drive on it. I have an engine from a jet ski so was just wondering.

Typically the jetpump doesn't work well at all with the Hydro hull. Why? 'Cause the hydro works by lifting its tail end out of the water to minimize drag. Well, here's your poor jetdrive lifted out of the water and now not working. Sanger tried this and although the boats looked like real cool machines.. They worked horrible. Don't do it. Put somehting with a prop on it. Watch a Hydro and a tunnel hull at speed. Although they look kinda' the same, at speed the hydro is riding on its sponsons and prop with its tail out of the water. Wheras the tunnel boat is nose up and sitting on its tail where the jetdrive is. -jim lee

Install a propeller on the shaft of the jetski motor and make a hydro air boat! On second thought maybe not. Unless you wanted to add wings and get your pilots licence.![]()
