Fonda Jet Drive Engine Linkage

Hi all

I've just acquired a Fonda jet boat (previous owners project) and am in the the process of rebuilding it.

Unfortunatly the previous owner was not the greatest of engineers and has bodged quite a few things

The question i have is: How is the engine usually connected to the jet drive?

At the moment the linkage is made with a single UJ (engine is a 3.5 Rover V8) this seems a little dodgy to me as it will allow for no angular missalignment which will happen when the engine rock on its mounts!

If anyone with a similiar boat could tell me of how theirs is constructed i would appreciate it (may be i'm just be overly fussy - i just don't want it to break when i'm several miles from shore!!!)

Thanks.
Ian

Hi Ian,
I have a fonda jet boat driven by a 3.0L Ford V6 engine the jet drive is coupled to the crank shaft of the engine via a rubber coupling. The rubber prevents the engine vibration being transmitted down into the drive. What sort of a drive unit do you have? I am currently having problems with mine trying to source parts but not having much luck.

Martin..

Ian,

I'm at the point of trying to design my coupling for a rover V8 to hamilton jet drive and I would have the same reservations with using a single UJ coupling especially without any rubber torsional dampener.
Have a look at the Ultrajet site www.ultradynamics.com it's very comprehensive on many different topics, incl couplings and alignment. I found it very useful.

Regards

Paul.

p.s. Let me know how you get on. Cheers.

DateLine bikini shaft coupling

The boat is having its engine replaced and we need to replace the flexible rubber drive coupling, can any one tell me where we can get a suitable replacement for a dateline bikini(ford v6, jet drive unknown but has west end written on it). Typically, here in the us, you hook the jet to the engine using what's know as an "H-Bar". Here a link to a selection of them.

Hope this helps.
