ok but the wire is shorted by the switch so you need to ensure it remains open circuit
There should be a wire with a ring terminal coming out of the wiring loom at the back of the motor
( When you say 165 is that the 6 or 4 cyl)

When you say ring, is that the harness disconnect at the motor? That is where I was doing the jumpers. BTW the motor is hanging mid air on a chain. Just in case it matters.

This is the engine wiring for the 3.0LX. The 165 and old 140 are very similar, just the distributors are different and the older ones had the alternator output wired to the rubber plug to facilitate an ammeter as std equipment.
The cut out switch shorts the ignition during gear shift; it should be open or removed.

There will most likely be a start-in-neutral-only circuit. As a jet doesn't really have a neutral you'll have to join these wires to allow motor to run.
