Or am I mistaken- can I run freshwater through the manifold, with a solid gasket through the riser? I can swear I've seen that before....

Those aluminum headers are not pure aluminum. They are a high quality marine alloy and will not deteriorate like the steel ones. Therefore no need for coating the inards.

I'm strickly a Fresh Water Boater, but see no reason why circulating Fresh water thru the Manifolds and "dumping" sea water at the Risers would'nt work. Early Mercruisers worked this way, with fresh water only, (3 hoses) to pre- heat Engine water. You might need "extra" capacity in the heat exchanger.

I think that set up would require especially designed headers. |

The reason I though about running a fresh water system vice raw water is because I have a heat exchanger laying around from an old junker I aquired. That boat had a 350 in it, so I'm guessing that it would be big enough for a 440?? In my last two boats, it's always been raw water. I might just stay with that as it's definitely a simpler set up. Is it worth it though to run a FWC block? I always rinse my engine out right after it come out of the ocean. Thanks everyone for the advice!
