Wet exhaust ??

I have a question about wet exhaust installation.
My generator has a water cooled "pot" in the engine compartment. The thruhull outlet is above water line, the hose rises up higher than the pot's fitting, by maybe 8".
I notice that water is expelled in spurts. I'm assuming the water builds up at the bottom of the pot until the exhaust gas pressure builds to push it out, then a bit of free exhaust, until the water builds again.
I need to "hump" the hose. Raise it fairly high to clear a new battery box, then back down to the thruhull.. There is already plenty of hose to do this. I'm wondering if there is a back pressure issue if I raise the hose higher than it is now? The pooling would triple in the pot, but still be below the inlet fitting. If need be, I can also raise the whole pot up off the hull.
Thanks, Ted.

The engine is a Westerbeke 3cyl. diesel.
From the engine to the silencer the hose drops 12" in a length of30"
From the pot up to thruhull is a rise of 8" in a length of 8', some of this is excess hose.
I need the hose to rise 24", (16" more) then fall a length of 6', down to the thruhull..
