velvet drive 1017 My transmission works fine in reverse but in forward it is slipping. I have pulled the screen (it was very clean), pulled the valve (cleaned and replaced), installed new fluid. None of the above helped. Does it sound like the forward clutch is gone? Any suggestions will help. thanks

| It probably needs rebuilding. If the reverse goes in the pump is producing enough pressure.

Should' ve smelled the old fluid to see if it smelled burnt, and/ or dark in colour. That would have been a clue.

I never smelled the clutches burning. It is a pretty distinct smell, I would have remembered. As for the fluid, It still had a pink look but was on the dark side. I do not think it smelled really burnt. I am ordering the overhaul kit, which includes gasket, seals and clutches. Is it necessary to put in new bearings and is there anything else that should be changed? I will look for where on plates and check for broken springs. I hope that is it. Thank You Rob

You should check the pressures now before removal. If it works in reverse then there not much wrong but did you hit the gas as much as you do in forward? Probably not . However I would obtain a manual and check pressures first. . If you dont check pressure now and you rebuild with no improvement you will then have to check pressures and possibly remove again.

I have a velvet drive that seems slow to engage in forward (intermittent) but is fine in reverse. What happens is that sometimes, you have to wait a second or so after engaging forward before accelerating. Othertimes you can go straight from neutral and continue to give gas without over-revving before the gearbox engages. Any ideas?
