Renault Marine Couach RC28d AS16 Reverse gear problems

Hello.
I wondered if anybody here could help me. I have a Renault Marine Couach RC28d with a (renault) AS16 reverse gear gearbox. My problem is that the clutch cones inside the gearbox are slipping - it sometimes takes a few attempts to get any forward motion. When I do get forward motion it is often a bit on the intermittent side. I wondered if anybody had either a: a spare as16 gearbox; b: cone clutches for the gearbox or c; are there any compatable cone clutches from other manufacturers for this box? d; all else failing, are thre any other gearboxes that would fit - the ratio is 2.05 to 1.
RC28d parts are a little hard to find!!!
I have spent ages playing around with the selector lever adjustment with mixed results. Any help or pointers would be gratefully recieved.
I'm in England.
Many thanks, ollie

I am not familiar with that gearbox but have rebuilt many cone clutches. They are supposed to self adjust for wear. However, if they are galled or worn unevenly, they may not get enough friction. Sometimes it is possible to lap them and make them seat right again.

Hi Gonzo. Hope you are well. Many thanks for your reply. My computer has been in for repair so have only just read it!! I think I'm going to have to do what you say. I've been in contact with a couple of engineering companies who may be able to help. I've got to take the 'box to them so that they can have a look.

Hi: If you don't get any results, I will be in London in July. My plan is to stay in the UK for at least a couple of months.

Google for Technodrive, an Italian company, now US owned. They make small gearboxes with 2.0:1 reduction and supply SAE adapters and engine couplers as well. Good value for money!
