recommended flexible stuffing box tubing

I need to replace the stuffing box tubing on my inboard diesels. The original was 23 years old - no marking left, can't tell what it is. I've only read that "reinforced" tube is recommended.

If I recall correctly, standard practice is to use wire-reinforced hose meeting SAE J2006 standards for all raw-water applications.
I suspect that hose meeting this standard is also suitable for stuffing box tubing, but don't quote me on that.... at least without a couple more opinions from the members with more experience than me.

flex tube

no wires in the stuff I removed - but that doesn't mean much as far as what's supposed to be there

You often see hose with double cloth reinforcement. If the distance between the end of the stuffing box and the tube is very small I don't see any problem.

However its built , the hose will be really THICK , so it can resist the torque from a tight packing .

The usual hose is a fiber (textile) reinforced one in that application.
