The realities of CPPs

After getting feedback on various systems, I've settled on a single diesel with a CPP for the Kayak tender. I've done some reading on the theory of CPPs, but what are the realities?

How do the control systems differ from a fixed prop and marine gearbox?

How is engine RPM managed? Do you control it manually? Set it at a constant RPM? Set the pitch and let the engine adjust to the speed needed?

Is the reducing gear built into the CPP system or is a separate reducer required between the engine and drive?

I've seen sites mention a cost of around $2000 - $3000 for a suitable system for a 110-120 HP engine. Does this sound reasonable?

Are there any particular shafting or engine placement requirements?

Thanks

You say you have done some studies. Not the right publications obviously.

You should have included this:

The Controllable Pitch Propeller, a summary.

and probably you have the wrong people on your ignore list.
