| propulsion design help Hi all, I am new here... i actually got this new passion from seeing my dad do his designing for the company he works for (although he wants me to stay out of his things). Anyways, i want to try and develop something without him knowing until i finish.. so that he will be proud of me (he hardly is)... i am designing a Yacht (very slowly though, because i am still learning Autoship - as i have to learn it by my self-)... i have a question with the "custom" propolsion i want to use on this project. The files i Attached a pictures taken from Autoship, 1 is rendered and 2 isnt. do you get what i am trying to draw?? 2 proppelers 2 meters away from each other moving at the same pace but at a different angle. diametre about 1,5m. basically i wanted to mount 2 of these on each side of the Hull (the boat i am making is kinda fat.... and phat..., weights in at about 45,000kg -if looking at my dad has tought me something-). they would be incassed inside the Hull, one pair at port and the other at starboard. Myabe when i get further on my design, some of you guys can comment! would these things be able to propel my ideal yacht forward with greater ease? how about Jet engines (but maybe to expensive in comparison)? ps: please don't mind my spelling mistakes!! thx 2 all!! |

| The question is... At what point (speed) does the thrust it will it add be counteracted by the more resistance than it provides in additional efficiency. I would say about 9 knots. But you need alot of testing to know for sure. Water is much thicker than air. Kort nozzles lose efficiency below 14 knots. Remember all things considered, large blades and less of them is more efficient than more smaller ones. At least that is present theory. |

| in an other message (in 2007) you were saying that you had some source for cheap epoxy resin in Miami.... Could you communicate the name/address of that source? (I am planning to be in Miami with my boat in a few weeks.... and I could use that source...) thanks in Miami, Florida. And I can buy epoxy at $30 a gallon, or should I say $60 for a two gallon at a local supplier. I dont buy in larger quantity because I dont get much of a discount. I am also looking at new suppliers myself. But problem is shipping. These containers are not very sturdy and I think they consider epoxy a hazardous waste so I don't think it can be sent via regular ups. |
