| Torque Values VS 'lubricant' ?? Quote:
I seem to remember something about different values for oiled VS dry Head Bolts, but it's back in my distant past!

| 35 years ago at the RR school in London a boy stood up and with a slighty nervous voice asked--"Why dont Rolls Royce give torque values?" The waxed mustached teacher in a white coat with hands in his pocket looked at the student and said" If you dont know how tight a bolt should be -we dont want you working on our engines" I have never owned a torque wrench!! |

Actually, if you want exact torgue settings for a particular application, then you would follow a torque-angle format. Many of the engine maufacturers give torque-angle settings rather than actual torque on head bolts. Those settings are usually with their reccomendation as to what to apply to the threads. Most other fasteners on an engine are not as critical as long as you don't over stress the bolt. I use loctite red on anything under 20 FT/LBS or on things such as flywheel and dampner bolts. |
