| A how to make a marine starter 10MT For marinizing and repair you need 2 things, the wet clutch kit and the center frame support. My starters are the 10MT Delco Remy 1107765, considered a 'Top Mount starter design', really these have been used a very long time from the early 60's at least till today. I got my parts from Alternator & Starter Parts Wholesale http://www.aspwholesale.com/ Very nice guy has everything great prices and knowledge. An entire starter brush bushing rebuild kit is $18. Ask and he will include an exploded diagram shows how these go together. The center support, a metal disc sits between the gear and the armature winding and clutch kit has seals to keep sparks from igniting gas vapors. Here you have to buy an entire starter for marine that is going to be at least $150 and up. |

| I got the parts and here is an exploded diagram. The center support plate is supposed to be bolted to the nose front part. so I will have to drill and tap 2 holes. This will be tricky as the armature is now going to line up with 3 bushings and that center frame has to be exactly centered. My thoughts to do this is place some epoxy to join the center support to the nose piece then assemble the starter. When it is dry take it apart and the center plate will be in the exact proper spot. Then drill and tap for 10-32 screws. | When you get this wet clutch kit, you will get a rubber seal 71-1700. The plate 53-111 is all you need! Plus heavy marine type grease. That seal is only for wet clutch oil immersion starters, that seal wont be used at all. You still need the wet clutch kit for other rubber parts, like the solenoid and center support rubber seal ring. Plate 53-101 has seal 71-1700 pressed into it for oil situations. Where the drive end is oil immersed. You also need a washer to go between the bendix drive and this plate 84-7706 0.153 thickness or 84-7709 0.090 thickness This has a 2 inch diameter and keeps the bendix from scoring into the plate. I dont have one so I plan on making one from formica laminate, and use 2 washers. I am documenting this so anyone who wants to do this can figure it out.
