Ford 302 inboard - angle and oil question I have a 20' inboard with a Ford 302. The engine sits at a 17 degree angle (down in the rear) at rest plus another 3 or 4 degrees while underway. Is this OK? Also, there is no way to check or drain the oil. Is there a product that can be attached to the side of the engine pan that will make these actions possible?

I have basically the same situation - 16deg. shaft angle, 302 Ford, 20ft Boat - GlenL "Monoco". Motor is extensively modified, producing approx. 350HP at the Prop. Max speed to date is 77mph. As long as your engine has the Marine Oil Pan or a Truck rear sump Pan, you should have adequate oil capacity at 17deg.angle. Be sure your oil pressure is at least 10psi. for each 1000 rpm engine speed. I change my oil using a hand pump attached to a container with a plastic hose inserted into the dip stick tube, purchased at my local auto parts store. Because of the motor angle (16deg) my dip stick will show "Full" with 6qt oil which is adequate. 7 qt to full with the engine level. DO NOT OVERFILL. Overfilling can cause Oil to "Foam" which retards adequate lubrication.

I have the same question except my motor has no visible dip stick to check or suck the oil out of the motor. At least I haven't located a dip stick

All of the 302 marine Engines (Mercruiser) I've seen have their Dip Stick on the Right side of the engine as viewed from the Flywheel end. Dip Stick is in Block just above oil pan very near the Starter. Oil drain plug is very near the Dip stick except near bottom of pan, probably 8" from bellhousing on inside face of oil pan sump. Could be either facing front of engine or on side of pan.
