    Hey guys. Can you suggest me some papers or books where I can find the design techniques for stern flaps for energy saving?

    I think not. I think what he means is: "stern flaps for energy saving". It is similar but not the same.

    There is also a paper that was given at the WorkBoat show by Dominic Cusanelli covering the subject for a range of ship types, and a similar Professional BoatBuilder article, but I can't find the links.

    So far it appears that either model tests or high level CFD is required.

    Thanks to all of you. But I have read all these articles. I still am not able to understand the thickness requirements. Might be some CFD analysis can reveal the facts. I still don't think that root thickness will be playing any major role. However the shape of the cross section may do that. Can you guess if am right or going drastically wrong?
