Leo may need to comment, but my understanding is Michlet does not give an accurate near-field wave profile. This is inherent due to the assumptions and simplificantions made in the thin ship theory Michlet is based on.

If you are able to run openFOAM so that you have sufficient confidence in the wave profile and pressure distribution then it would probably be better to optimize based on the drag results from openFOAM. The "low drag" hull shapes from Michlet could be a starting point for the optimization using openFOAM.

Be aware that one of the risks with CFD such as openFOAM is that it very possible to get very plausible looking but wrong results.

Where are you located in Michigan? I'm in Rochester Hills north of Detroit.

If I am understanding you correctly, it seems that Doctors and Day tried
something similar without success. See, for example:
"Nonlinear Effects on the Squat of a Vessel with a Transom Stern",
International Workshop on Water Waves and Floating Bodies, 2002.
