recommendation for 8x8 amphibious propulsion

I'd appreciate any recommendations on propelling an 8x8 amphibious vehicle (like Argo) across calm inland waters. It doesn't need to plane out, just slow wake speed.

Would a used PWC jet drive (seadoo, etc.) work? see photo.

Weight is approximately 2000lbs. think small barge.

I've seen a variety of different approaches, from outboard motors to propellers to jet drives.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ok. given the lack of response, maybe jet-powered isn't the way to go.

Another thought, perhaps a hydraulic system would be better? The ATV is powered by a 70hp engine with room for a clutch-engaged hydraulic pump. I'm thinking maybe a pair of smaller props to avoid having a rudder.

Again, slow no wake speed is all that's required.

It may be amphibious but what depth of water is it rated for?
Is it top-heavy and pose a roll-over threat?
Would a trolling motor or 2 be adequate?
With 2 you could steer by powering up the one on the outside of the turn, while diminishing power to the one on the inside of the turn.

don't know about wave-height rating - i doubt it was determined. Center of gravity is real low.

It would be used on water with an extra set of 8 tires. I'm guesing the water level would be a few inches above wheel center, leaving 14" or so of free board. by my calculations, the 16 tires would support it even if completely swamped.

good thought on the paired trolling motors. that may be the simplest route.

My concern is that once the tires lose contact with the bottom, the unit may lose stability. Have you had it in water deep enough for all tires to be suspended in water without any tire touching the bottom? If so, how did it behave?

I havent' had it in water. The sales brochure shows one out on a lake with 9 people piled in.

Hull is flat bottomed (approx. 4'x8'), vertical sides, angled front & back.

Test it. That photo does not tell you the water depth.

agreed, you can't tell the water depth from that photo. but, i've seen other photos of the machine being operated in greater depths.

i'm a few weeks from testing in water. Thanks for your input!
